Lexi Newbauer Jr/Sr September Student Spotlight

Lexy is a rare freshman.  Typically, freshmen come into high school a little immature, lacking confidence and trying to figure out who they are.  Lexy is none of these.  Lexy is mature beyond her years; she approaches her everyday activities with confidence, and she seems very comfortable with who she is.  Mr. Luoma says, “Lexy is a mature young lady!  She shows up daily, wearing a smile and ready to work.  She makes the classroom fun!”  What a great testament to who Lexy is as a person.  Mr. Schradle echoes this by saying, “Lexy is a genuinely kind person; what you see is who she is; it’s not a façade.  She has a smile that lights up the room and seems to never be in a bad mood.”  We try to impress on our students that things in life aren’t always going to go your way, but you try not to allow them to affect how you interact with others in your daily life.  I am sure not everything in Lexy’s life is always duckies and bunnies, but you would never know it; she is consistently happy, and she positively interacts with others.

Lexy is well known for her willingness to help others. Mr. LaBlanc writes, “Lexy seems to be embracing her opportunity to be a part of the high school, is actively engaged in class discussion, and has willingly been helping out a student who has recently returned to school following a surgery.”  Kindness and willingness to help others are traits commonly lost in our society.  Seeing young people who are willing to go out of their way to aid others is something special.  Lexy, on a daily basis, shows her thoughtfulness towards others in the classroom; she is helpful to whoever is in need.

Lexy cares about her academic success; she wants to do well.  Her strong work ethic shines on a regular basis.  Mrs. Weber says, “Lexy is a wonderful student. She is always ready to learn and complete the tasks asked of her. Above that, she is always kind and considerate of others. She puts her best effort into helping create a good learning environment for everyone.”  It’s not only in the traditional classroom where Lexy tries her hardest; in physical education, Mr. Croes says, “Lexy has been a great student so far this year. Lexy brings a positivity and energy to Phy Ed that keeps the class upbeat and competitive.” Lexy is also a three-sport athlete and trains hard in the offseason to improve herself physically.

I don’t recall having a freshman as student of the month this early in the school year.  Lexy has displayed very quickly who she is as a young adult and student here at Clayton High School.  All of the previous comments made about Lexy are just a small glimpse into what a great student/athlete she is.   Her strong set of character traits is sure to take her to great places throughout the remainder of her time here in Clayton, as well as beyond these walls.  We are all excited to see how Lexy grows as a person and the accomplishments that she will achieve in the future.
