Four Middle School Student Council members visited CESA #11 in Turtle Lake on October 17th for internationally known speaker, activist, and author Sam Demma 🗣️ Sam speaks to students about setting goals and steps for making positive changes in their lives. Sam teaches students that we all wear imaginary backpacks🎒. You do not know what people are carrying around with them and to examine their own "backpack" of experiences, expectations of others, and self-talk 🌨️ 🌥️. He shared strategies to help unpack heavy, negative beliefs, and to re-pack confident, positive ➕ beliefs that can help us overcome challenges and achieve our dreams It was an amazing day with lots of good messages for students.💜 💛

🦌 🦌 This past week, Wisconsin DNR Biologist Aaron Seitz joined Clayton High School’s Outdoor Wisconsin class to speak about whitetail deer biology and aging as part of their unit on our state's big game animal. Students from Mr. Eichman’s class were joined by Mr. Luoma’s seventh-grade students. The full house was completely engaged and thoroughly enjoyed how Mr. Seitz explained how to use the lower jaw bones and molar structure of deer to age them and the applications as to why deer are aged in the first place. Mr. Seitz also discussed the biology behind how the whitetailed deer feeds and explained the dangers and transmission of CWD, Chronic Wasting Disease. Students, as well as Mr. Luoma and Mr. Eichman would like to thank Mr. Seitz and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for sharing jaw bones for students to estimate ages of and for providing us with such an engaging learning experience. 👏 👏

💻 💻 💻 Digital Citizenship Week is October 14-18, 2024. Digital Citizenship Week was first celebrated in 2010 as a way to provide children with guidance on how to make responsible and ethical decisions in online spaces. Since then, the online world has truly exploded. Therefore, instruction in the safe and responsible use of digital tools has become even more important. This guidance starts at home. The most important thing you can do is talk with your children. Please take some time this week to talk with your children about your home device and internet rules. If you have some already, terrific! If not, take this opportunity to work out some rules that work for both you and your children. Revisit them often and revise as needed. Attached, you will find examples of 'contracts' that can help start a conversation with your child about internet safety.

🛩️ 🛬 Is your student interested in aviation? If so, this is a program that Clayton Senior Aidan Olson attended in Summer 2023 in Arizona! Aidan received 15 hours of flight training and learned valuable teamwork, interpersonal, and leadership lessons. There is no cost to your family as the United States Air Force completely funds the program! Middle School and High School Student Councils are working together on a Midwest Mixes fundraiser. Mixes available for sale include: veggie/chip dips, olive oil bread dips, pasta sauces, pickling mixes, and dessert mixes. Each mix can easily be added to common household ingredients to create something delicious!! Packages include directions and ideas of what you can make. Each package sells for $5.00. Students will be taking orders and will have samples at the volleyball games on October 14th.
